Cleanliness in the surroundings is just as important as cleanliness for every individuals and families. That is why it is rightly said “Cleanliness is Godliness” women should always be a part of the discussions about the aftermath ODF and possible solutions. Women who always care for children and the home,by giving proper inputs they may recognize how essential and important sanitation and water issues are rather then men do.

In 1999, the Union Government rolled out the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC). Its objective was to spread awareness among the rural people and generation of demand for sanitary facilities, subsequently Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) on October 2, 2014, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The ambitious programme aims to make the the nation ODF free , clean streets, roads and infrastructure across the country by October 02, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. It is India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive.

Bobby Mohanty Foundation came forward and joined the Swachh Bharat Mission to make Narsinghpur and Badamba Block of Cuttack districts a complete ODF which is in the state of Odisha. After doing a survey BMFT decided to take village NUAGARD which has got 60 nos of households as the role model village for ODF, as it is a tribal village, one of the most isolated village in the Narsinghpur Block and the village is at 2200 feet above sea level with lots of limitations & challenges , this gave us the opportunity and BMFT took the challenge in making the village complete ODF.

During the construction of IHHL ( Individual House Hold Latrine) BMFT has come across lots of challenges and limitations such as scarcity of water, availability of raw materials & manpower, inspite of all this challenges BMFT has made all efforts to make the Nuagard village a complete ODF village.

Government’s Funding for each IHHL is 12000/- however it will not be out of place to mention here that to make the beneficiary IHHL more qualitative, durable and spacious BMFT is spending an additional amount in addition to the Government fund.

Though the government is putting its best foot forward and its best efforts, yet we as citizen need an attitudinal change to fulfill the mission of a clean India in its true spirit.
